Contemporary Quilts

Contemporary quilts are more modern in design and form. These include the use of bold colours and prints, minimalist designs, high contrast and graphic areas of solid colour, improvisational piecing, digitally altered design, non-traditional fabrics, embellishments and techniques.  Can be wholecloth, pieced, appliquéd, hand quilted, machine quilted or a combination of techniques. Minimum 2 feet (61 Cms) and Maximum 8 feet (244 Cms) on any side.

Indian Quilts

Quilts that reflect the rich textile tradition of India and its various quilting styles. Can be made using traditional quilting methods, techniques, fabrics, motifs and designs from any part of India, or, can be a completely new spin on the same. You are encouraged to showcase the spirit of India in whatever style and form you like. The quilts can be wholecloth, pieced, appliquéd, hand quilted, machine quilted or made using a combination of techniques. Minimum 2 feet (61 Cms) and Maximum 8 feet (244 Cms) on any side.

Pictorial Art Quilts

Pictorial quilts often contain one-of-a-kind patterns and imagery that is either realistic or impressionistic and present a motif that is recognizable. It could consist of characters or landscapes or elements drawn from a real or fictional world. An Art Quilt often pushes quilt world boundaries  and experiments with textile manipulation, colour, texture and/or a diversity of mixed media.  Minimum 2 feet (61 Cms) and Maximum 8 feet (244 Cms) on any side.

 

Gen Nxt

Quilts made by a quilter under the age of 18 years as on January 1st, 2023. This can include all styles and construction methods including the ones covered in the above categories. Minimum 2 feet (61 Cms) and Maximum 8 feet (244 Cms) on any side.

 

Miniature Quilts

A miniature quilt is a reduced or scaled down version of a full sized quilt design, usually by about one-twelfth. By accurately reducing the size of the quilt blocks and components, the quilter produces an exact replica of a full size quilt in miniature. The quilts can be wholecloth, pieced, appliquéd, hand quilted, machine quilted or made using a combination of techniques. Maximum 18 inches (46 Cms) on any side.

It could be a literal interpretation, figurative, metaphorical, abstract or even impressionistic. Let the theme speak to you and let your thoughts manifest into a quilt !
